(This message was added in version 6.7.0.) in /home/wd2_cpws/craftypaws.us/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6114I made a small 6×6 layout for a crafty friend, Vonny (YT: MyDivineGrace), well actually for her daughter, Gracelynn. 🙂 They wanted something with a mermaid theme, in soft colors, and a space for a small picture. When I looked through my stamps, I realized I didn’t have any mermaids so I decided to draw one and make that my free digi of the week! Her name is “Melody Mermaid,” and I hope you like her.

I used 1 sheet of 12 x 12 patterned paper cut down to fit through my printer so that I could paper piece the fishy part of the mermaid. Then I also printed her out on white cardstock so that I could do my Copic coloring. These are the colors I used: Skin: E00 and E11; Hair: E13, 15, 19, and 79; Eyes, YG67 (with a top coat of Glossy Accents so her eyes would shine); Shading on paper pieced fishy part of mermaid: C1. I also used clear Wink of Stella on the paper pieced part for some shimmer, but I thought it needed even more sparkle so I painted on some green (with red undertone) Stickles in Holly along the edges and the folds of her tail.

As for the actual layout, I used the reverse of the paper that I had used for the paper piecing, which had a lovely area with images of coral. I fussy cut and popped that and the mermaid up on foam adhesive. This was much more time consuming and detailed than I had originally anticipated, as so many areas required really thin foam adhesive tape so as not to show from behind. LOL I inked the edges with baby blue Tsukineko ink to create a more finished look. Lastly, to add even more sparkle I added dark blue, pale blue, white, and silver sequins in different sizes. They are supposed to be like shiny bubbles floating up in the water.

The following is a video share of this LO:
